Common site that all User Groups can use and share
Joyce, how did this come about?
Is IBM involved?
What are your hopes for this effort?
Tips: Darren: Mat Newman’s session DB. New TweetDeck has a column called “Interactions”, that is the same as the “Connect” feature in mobile and web Twitter. It’s just not visible by default but is great if you are an ASW like me. Louis: bit.ly/pticonnect Mitch: UberConference for conference calling http://uberconference.com/zesnq328 (shamelessly shared a referral link to get me credit towards new features) Colleen: Follow #ibmconnect! Joyce: IBM Champions List Stuart: Doodle.com - a ready-made replacement for Tungle. This Week in Lotus Live!!
Recorded on 7th January 2013. We meet with Mat Newman, Per Lausten and Bill Malchisky to discuss Connect 2013 sessions, announcements, tips, social events and hidden treasures, the recent openNTF contest, the Notes/Domino 9 beta and new features in Kudos Badges. All that and more on This week in Lotus!
One little note - despite everyone's best efforts, Bill's audio was a little 'murky'. We've done our best but can't clean it up as much as we'd like, so please bear with us during the show - hopefully it doesn't spoil your listening pleasure too much.
Per Henrik Lausten (blog | twitter | company) is an independent consultant with his own one-man company in Denmark. He is working with XPages, Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino development and administration based on experience with Lotus Notes/Domino since 1997. He is chairman of the board at NotesNet.dk, member of the board at DanNotes and member of the board at OpenNTF. He is a 2013 IBM Champion for IBM Collaboration Solutions.
Mat Newman (blog |twitter |company) is the Director of Education for ISW, an IBM Premier business partner in Australia, who are IBM ICS and IBM Websphere ANZ Business partner of the year award winners. ISW are also the folks behind WildFire! and Kudos Badges. An IBM Notes user since 1992, Mat is an IBM Champion for Collaboration Solutions, owner of the coolest YELLOW suit around, who by day educates Users, Administrators and Developers on IBM Software and spends his spare time keeping a bunch of people amused while they organise AusLUG.
Bill Malchisky (blog | twitter | company) is an IBM Champion for Collaboration Solutions 2013, bringing 20 years of global Lotus consulting experience in regulated verticals along with business prowess to his sessions. He has presented at over 20 ICS/Lotus focused conferences, including Lotusphere. Previously, Bill has been published in THE VIEW journal, CLiPpings, co-authored two IBM Redbooks on Linux, plus worked with Lotus Education to re-vamp the Domino 8.5 Admin certification exam track. A thirteen year loyal business and design partner, he provides services to Fortune 1000 firms, SMB, and governments. Finally, he maintains a Lotus and Linux focused blog as well.
Tips: Darren: KeePass - an open source and hence free password database and creator. Works with Windows, Mac, iOS, etc and can be synced with DropBox or HTTP(S) (the password DB is highly encrypted, you’re safe) Per: 1. IBM Domino Designer 9 beta: Lots of improvements for developers 2. Try Intrapages, created by Thomas Adrian - available on OpenNTF (demo at intrapages.com). Winners of the 4th OpenNTF contest Mat: Keep your eye out on PlanetLotus / matnewman.com for the Unofficial, totally unsupported and non-affiliated ConnectOsphere session database. Bill: 1. Connect 2013 - Rather than spend lots of time at the Dolphin fountain waiting for your party on Wednesday evening, either meet at your hotel and grab the bus there, or just meet your party in-front of the gate to save time getting to the park 2. Notes - Alternate way to create folders on-the-fly using the Windows folder construct. Example from ->Send and File -> Create New Folder -> type the tree on the fly. e.g. Accounts\TWiL will create automatically the TWiL folder object under your Accounts branch. Saves a lot of time with long folder lists. Note of caution: if the “Accounts” branch does not exist, you can expand it within your mail file, but you can’t place a message there until you explicitly create it. I found this to be a nice time-saver that I’ve used for many years and hope you enjoy it. Links: Soccer Saturday GoSIM Card (mobile calls and data for international attendees) LinuxFest IV - Thursday during lunch; bring your box lunch, then go straight to Ask the Developers Stuart: Book your Mears shuttle before travelling to Connect, else arrange shared cab.
Recorded on 18th December 2012. New IBM Champion (and This Week in Lotus producer) Alan Hamilton joins us to discuss the new IBM Champions for 2013, the upcoming Connect conference, Social Connections IV and the changes to IBM Smart Cloud for Social Business.
Alan Hamilton (blog | twitter) is Director of Services at Seric Systems, an IBM Business Partner who delivers IBM hardware and software solutions by day and social business fan by night
Alan has joined TWiL team to help with publishing podcast. Thank goodness!
Tips: Darren: I’ve been through a few SSD’s since they first came out, but my latest “acquisition” is by far the fastest I’ve ever seen, let alone used. The SanDisk Extreme SSD (with updated firmware) is a very, very fast SSD. Right now it is on sale at Amazon (at least in the US) so go get a 240GB screaming fast SSD. Alan: The forthcoming version of Notes 9 supports retina display on the MacBook Pros. Traveler to-do app Stuart: 1Password - fantastic password saving app for Mac, Windows, Android and iOS. Syncs with iCloud or Dropbox, autocaptures and populates data in browser. Also saves wallet and account details. Highly recommended! Also, flat ethernet and HDMI cables!
Recorded on 8th November 2012. We are joined by Handly Cameron and Sharon Bellamy to discuss Connect 2013, the launch of Connections 4.0, Social Connections IV and more.
Please Read: As you may have noticed, November 8th was a while ago, so yet again we've had a bit of an hiatus in releasing these shows. The fault lies completely with me - vacations and workloads have definitely not helped. However, rumours of our demise have definitely been exaggerated! We will be continuing to release shows to meet your collaboration needs through this autumn and winter, perhaps not every week but reasonably often, continuing to heighten your podcast pleasure through to the unbeatable climax of a live and final ever TWiL show at IBM Connect 2013 in Orlando. Does that sound good?
Handly Cameron (blog | twitter | company) is a Technology Manager leading mobile and social solutions at Prolifics. He has recently been focused on building mobile solutions with IBM Worklight and integrating them with Connections and Portal.
Sharon Bellamy (blog | twitter |company) is Social Business Architect at Collaboration Matters - working with all ICS products but especially Connections and WebSphere - iSeries fan girl and friend of Mat Newman :)

Tips: Darren: AllTrails - a very useful website and accompanying mobile app for finding places to walk/hike. May only have US hiking trails, but still good stuff. Niklas: http://twit.tv/ esp. TWiGoogle and TWiTech Warren: If you’re in or around London at the moment, come into town and enjoy the atmosphere. Public transport is fine, there’s a party atmosphere all over the city and you don’t want to miss it! Christian: A book called software Development by HeadFirst. Stuart: Macbreak Weekly also by TWiT.tv. Also Downcast - the best podcast client for iOS.

Topics : User Experience at IBM
Tremendous response to the last time we had you on Chris
That was back in February 2011, seems that a lot as changed since then
Mobile even more of a phenomenon (iPad, android tablets finally taking off, MS Surface etc)
Ginni Rometty has brought focus on User Design, User Experience and Customer Experience
Also looking at new sites that improve customer experience
Will these kinds of tips be included in the products themselves as well?
e.g. Notes 8.5.4 and Connections 4.0
How do you do that without reinventing Clippy? ;-)
Lots of well known community people listed
What are your plans in the future?
Will there be more tips, 8.5.4 Social Edition content etc?
Will there be other Experience sites? Experience IBM Connections for example?
Mat speak to a lot of customers and end users, can you see this site being popular and well used?
Need easy way to access... Already have it! learn.lotus.com/notes
Changing nature of application access
Native apps are the primary access point etc
The upcoming IBM Lotus Notes Traveler Android Tablet App is fantastic, how hard is it to try and build a functional app that’s still simple and intuitive?
How do you manage customer/partner requests?
The new OneUI theme is garnering a lot of attention
Is black and white the new colour? ;-) (especially as MS Office 2013 seems to be going that way as well)
Great to see consistency across all the products - can we assume that Sametime and Quickr will go that way at some stage?
Microsoft announces first loss (as a public company)
Microsoft Windows 8 announced - The Lotus Notes workspace appears in another form
Microsoft Office 2013 previews available
Tips: Darren: Memolane - wondered what you said on Twitter in former times (or I believe Facebook and Google+ too but I wouldn’t know that)? Memolane will send you daily emails with your past tweets from former years on today's date. Makes me smile everyday. Chris: Visit the Experience Notes website! Mat: Enable the ‘Preset Feeds’ in your Lotus Notes side-bar, and then subscribe to the Lotus Notes Tips, there have been some really great podcasts from the IBM UX team lately. Stuart: Sound Gecko is a text-to-audio transcribing service that lets you enjoy written content from around the web on the go without distraction. Be free from screens as you listen to articles by simply sending an email or pressing a button in your browser.

Sorry but once again had a few Skype gremlins creep in through the show, so please forgive us - we've done our best to improve things as much as we can!
Mike McGarel (blog | twitter) is a Collaborative Solutions Developer for Czarnowski Display Services, “XPages marks the spot” in my career right now. Duffbert’s blog post about changes in conferences (http://www.duffbert.com/duffbert/blog.nsf/d6plinks/TADF-8VRPQU) was discussed on TWIL. Are LUGs replacing paid conferences such as the those put on by the View? Tips (a site, feature, offer, app, gadget etc.): Darren: Fitbit. IT folks are a sedentary bunch. I use a Fitbit Ultra to guilt me into taking stairs and walking. Great example of a small device and web site integration. Since I got it a few weeks ago I’ve walked over 84 miles! Merry: Don’t try to learn XPages on your own - find a training company that can help, particularly around mentoring. Read the XPages books too! Mike: Obviously, attend MWLUG for great technical/social content. Or another LUG or user group event. (also check out XPages on Stack Overflow) Richard: New to Dojo or Responsive Design, Two great sites to learn about these two technologies, sitepen.com and alistapart.com (also, Notesin9.com for great XPages content) Stuart: Social Connections IV, 30th November 2012 in Amsterdam. New website at socialconnections.info. For your smartphone/tablets, use a lockscreen image featuring your phonenumber, email and Twitter ID. Has saved me more than once!
Recorded live in Dublin on Friday 22nd June 2012. What do you get when an Englishman and English woman, an American, a Welshman and a Dutch lady walk into a bar?
